Day 21

Started in rain with a tough climb over to Lochranza & ferry to Claonaig which was full of bikes. Steady ride up to Lochgilphead and campsite. Beautiful steam puffer on Crinan Canal. Met Dutch couple with car roof tent who fed me fresh pancakes and fruity tea.
32.3 miles. Oban & possibly Mull tomorrow.

  1. Great to see and read about your adventures over the last few days as you are now on the route I took. I remember doing a very long day when I travelled from Brodrick to Carsphlain (pretty much what you did in reverse). Also stayed at campsite in Lochgilphead after travelling from Mull so certainly do-able in a day. I stayed at the shielings campsite on Mull - bit expensive but fabulous campers kitchen if weather is not too special (poured with rain the whole time I was there) and superb views towards the Glencoe mountains.

Glad all seems to be going well for you. Should be finishing in a week or so.

  2. Well done for reaching Scotland. Only about a week or so away from JOG. It has been great watching your adventures over the last couple of days. You are now on the route that I took. I remember my day's riding from Brodrick to Carsphlain as being a very long day too. I came down the hill from Lochranza and it was the best descent of the whole trip, with smooth roads and being able to see all the way down the hill you could just let the bike go. Great fun.I also stayed at the campsite in Lochgilphead, cycled there from Mull so easily do-able in a day even when I got held up for 2 hours due to a car crash closing the road. I stayed at the Shielings campsite which had fantastic views over the mountains of Glencoe and a brilliant campers kitchen if the weather is not so good, bit on the expensive side for 1 person though. Enjoy the rest of your trip, the ride up to Fort William and then onto Fort Augustus will be brilliant.
